MIAMI, March 23 – The Miami HEAT announced today that the results of an MRI
performed on center Alonzo Mourning has revealed a partial tear of the medial
gastroc muscle (calf). Mourning, who leads the NBA this season in blocked
shots with 173, is expected to be out between 2-4 weeks with the partial tear
of his right calf. He suffered the injury with 10:01 remaining in the second
quarter at Detroit last night. Mourning has appeared in 65 games (20 starts)
this season and is averaging 7.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.66 blocks and 20
minutes while shooting 59.7 percent from the floor and 59.4 percent from the
foul line.
