"In all player contracts, you have these clauses that can void it. But there are also a lot of protections in the contracts for the players. The contracts almost protect the employee better than the team." The language in the morals clause is vague and has never been successfully used to void a deal. The most celebrated instance of a team that tried to void a contract came after Latrell Sprewell choked Golden State coach P.J. Carlesimo at practice in 1997. The Warriors tried to invoke the morals clause in voiding the final three years of Sprewell's deal, worth around $24 million. But the arbitrator, John Feerick, then dean of Fordham's School of Law, reinstated the contract. Sprewell's attack is viewed as more serious than what Arenas did when he and Javaris Crittenton had their showdown with firearms in the Wizards' locker room.
