So, the committee is required to put five conference champions in the 12-team playoff. The American conference is in the driver's seat for the final conference champion bid, with teams like Memphis and South Florida breaching the AP top 25 multiple times this season. Of course, there is plenty of time for things to shake up, but this is a topic to monitor as we get closer to the the final rankings. SEC and Big Ten lead the way. The SEC debuted with nine teams in the top 25, the most of any conference, with the Big Ten following close behind with seven. The ACC is the third-highest with five, but no teams are in the top 10. The Big 12 comes in with three teams, but two of them are in the top 10 in No. 7 BYU and No. 8 Texas Tech. The Big Ten owns the top two spots, with the next four controlled by the SEC. One key difference between the AP poll and the CFP ranking is Iowa. The AP poll does not even have the Hawkeyes in the top 25, but the CFP poll has them up at 20. This is a stark difference that will be interesting to watch over the next few polls. --
