Fiddler on the Roof《屋上提琴手》 Tradition《传统》 Sabbath Prayer《安息日祷文》 Matchmaker《媒婆》 If I Were A Rich Man《假使我是有钱人》 Sunrise, Sunset《日昇日落》 To Life《敬生命》 Anatevka《安纳特夫卡》 Fiddler on the Roof《屋上提琴手》 本音乐剧原名为《Sholem Aleichem》，译作《泰维与他的女儿们》。诞生於风起 云涌的 60 年代，创作者清一色都是犹太人，由 Jerry Bock 作曲，Sheldon Harnick 作词，Joseph Stein 编剧。本音乐剧环绕着当时美国社会欠缺的人文历史省思，因此 不论在文化价值或是商业价值上，都有很大的成就。《屋顶上的提琴手》共在百老汇 连续上演了七年九个月，一度为百老汇史上最长寿的一出戏，直到 1979 年才被《火 爆浪子》取代。本剧更在 1971 年改编成电影，搬上大萤幕，并获得多项奥斯卡大奖 。不仅是音乐剧的经典之作，也是电影史上的瑰宝。 Tradition《传统》 「在我们这的小村子，我们每一个人都是屋顶上的提琴手，试着去拉出悠扬的曲 调，却不致於摔断脖子。那麽，我们要如何保持我们的平衡呢？我可以用一个词告诉 你…传统！」由我们的主人翁─泰维 (Tevye) 口中说出，这段经典的开场白，以及 接下来的序曲─Tradition，清楚点出了全剧的重心。传统让生活在安纳特夫卡的人 们，得以在艰困的生活中，保持平稳。 合唱团的四个声部正巧扮演了父亲、母亲、儿子、女儿四个角色，将传统社会中 的角色分工用生动的歌词表现出来。曲调则呼应着开场的小提琴曲主题，别具民族风 味。 《口白》 A fiddler on the roof. 屋顶上的提琴手。 Sounds crazy, no？ 听起来蛮疯狂的，可不是吗？ But here, in our little village of Anatevka, 但是在安那太夫卡这小村庄里， You might say every one of us 或许可以说： Is a fiddler on the roof, 每个人都是屋顶上的提琴手， Trying to scratch out a pleasant, simple tune 希冀能奏出一段简单而动人的旋律 Without breaking his neck. 又要小心别摔断脖子。 It isn't easy. 可真是不容易呀！ You may ask, 或许你会问： "Why do we stay up there if it's so dangerous？"既然那麽危险，干嘛要待在那里？ Well, we stay because Anatevka is our home. 我们待在这里， 只因为安那太夫卡是我们的家。 And how do we keep our balance？ 那，我们是如何保持平衡的呢？ That I can tell you in one word: 这我可以一言以蔽之： TRADITION!! 传统！ Tradition! 传统！ Because of our traditions, 凭藉着我们的传统， We've kept our balance for many, many years. 我们得以世世代代维持着 这不易的平衡 Here in Anatevka, 在安那太夫卡这儿， we have tradition for everything: 什麽事都有传统： How to eat, how to sleep, how to work, 吃饭、睡觉、工作， How to wear clothes. 就连穿衣服也是。 For instance, 举例来说， we always keep our heads covered 我们头上老是戴着帽子或包着头巾， And always wear a little prayer shawl. 还有总是围着一条小小的祈祷披巾。 This shows our constant devotion to God. 这象徵着我们对上帝的虔诚信仰， You may ask, 你或许想问： "How did the tradition get started?" 「这麽一个传统是怎麽开始的？」 I'll tell you. 我来告诉你， I don't know. 我也不知道。 But it's a tradition. 不过，反正这是个传统就是了。 And because of our traditions, 因为有这些传统， Every one of us knows who he is 每个人都明了自己是谁， And what God expects him to do. 还有上帝对我们的期许。 Who, day and night must scramble of a living, 谁日夜打拚为生活辛劳， Feed a wife and children, 只为图妻儿温饱？ Say his daily prayers? To Life《敬生命》 媒人为大女儿赛朵说媒的对象正是村里的老屠夫雷瑟渥夫，泰维几经思量，为了 女儿生活无虞便答应了这桩亲事。相谈甚欢的泰维和雷瑟渥夫相偕到小酒馆喝酒，并 与酒客们分享这份喜悦。 这首曲子非常热烈，充满了犹太民族音乐元素，两段饮酒歌之间还穿插着一段富 有俄国特色的激烈两拍子舞曲。对穷困的人民而言，生命是多麽的无常，所以，不如 乐观以对，好好享受当下吧！ Life is hard in Anatevka 在安纳特夫卡的日子真是不好过， But we have learned to take what comes 不过我们总是学着承受那些该来的事情， And hope for better days. 同时也企盼着更好的生活。 To life!
