Belgium and Netherlands played host to Euro 2000 and the latter have expressed interest in putting together a joint package to bring the World Cup to the low countries in 2018. KNVB general director Harry Been believes it is an attainable objective, as he told De Telegraaf: "The World Cup in 2006 is in Germany, the World Cup 2010 in South Africa and in 2014 it is supposedly in Brazil. After that, the turn is to Europe." The Belgian FA have expressed surprise at Been's comments.
