The former Ajax and Juventus custodian said: "The rehabilitation of my injury is the most important thing right now. Then I will focus on Manchester United and then we will see what is happening with the national team." Van der Sar was recently voted Europe’s top goalkeeper by the European Sports Magazines group and received his award from Marco van Basten at the Dutch Footballer of the Year Gala in Hilversum. He added: "When I see the list of keepers who I was up against, I’m glad that I came out on top. It helps to play alongside fantastic players." When asked for a second time at the Gala dinner about a return to the Dutch national team, Van der Sar said: "Let’s just go step by step. Right now my fitness is a priority." Van der Sar broke bones in his left hand during a penalty shoot-out against Bayern Munich in pre-season. He retired for a second time from international football in October 2008.
