Bellamy has been suffering with tendonitis in his left knee for several weeks and previously had the same problem in his right knee. A statement from Newcastle United said: 荘he problem flared up again during his last international duty and it was felt that following further consultation surgery would be the best option for Craig. Bellamy will be treated by Colorado surgeon Richard Steadman, who has already helped several players with knee problems. Newcastle had hoped that by resting the knee and following a special exercise programme Bellamy's injury would settle down. He played the full 90 minutes in Wales' final Euro 2004 group qualifier against Serbia and Montenegro nine days ago.
