O'Brien has a hamstring injury and joins his club-mate Stephen Carr plus Andy Reid and Matt Holland as absentees from Brian Kerr's squad. Kerr has confirmed that Richard Dunne, Steve Finnan and Liam Miller will definitely start for the Irish. Sunderland's Stephen Elliott is also likely to get his first cap. In addition to the withdrawals, there is also a doubt over Manchester City striker Jon Macken who will have a late fitness test on a back injury.
