Iowa State's Fred Hoiberg to Have Pacemaker Replaced
Iowa State men’s basketball coach Fred Hoiberg knew this time would come to
replace his pacemaker but he didn’t expect it to be so soon.
爱荷华州立大学的教练Fred Hoiberg知道他必须要替换他的心律调整器，不过他不知道这
时间会来得这麽快。
Hoiberg, now 41, was diagnosed with an aortic root aneurism in 2005. The
diagnosis ended his NBA career but saved his life. He was fitted with a
pacemaker during surgery and Tuesday that pacemaker will be replaced.
现年41岁的Hoiberg在2005年被诊断出有主动脉根部瘤。这个诊断结束了他的NBA生涯却救
了他的命。他在当时的手术被植入了心律调整器，而这礼拜二这设备会被重新替换。
Hoiberg thought his current pacemaker would last until next year, but a
checkup suggested the batteries need changing now.
Hoibert原本以为他现在的心律调整器可以用到明年，不过在一次的检查中发现内部的电
池需要更换。
Hoiberg often describes the changing of his pacemaker as “routine surgery.”
If all goes well, he’ll be out of the hospital the same day as the
procedure.
Hoiberg常形容更换他的心律调整器就像是「例行公事」一般。如果一切顺利，他可以按
照时间表出院。
Hoiberg’s pacemaker is near his left shoulder. It controls the rhythm of his
heart beat. The pacemaker has been there 9 years.
Hoiberg的心律调整器被植入在靠近左肩的地方。这东西控制着他心跳的节奏。它已经在
那里九年的时间了。
Doctors will remove the old pacemaker, and replace it with a new one.
医生会移出旧的，并换成一个新的。
Hoiberg’s heart forced him to stop playing basketball competitively, but he
works out daily to stay in good shape.
Hoiberg的心脏让他无法再打高强度的篮球，不过他仍然每天锻链来维持体态。
Hoiberg will also need a new heart valve one day. Unlike the pacemaker, that
will not be routine surgery.
Hoiberg有天也会需要一个新的心脏瓣膜。和心律调整器不同的是，这不需要定期接受手
术。
Fred told Channel 13 Sports Director Keith Murphy in April when he first
collapsed nine years ago, he thought he was dying. With successful surgery,
good doctors, and the pacemaker, he’s able to live a regular life.
Fred在四月的时後告诉Channel 13 Sports的主持人Keith Murphy，当他九年前第一次倒
下的时候，他以为自己死定了。在成功的手术、优良医生与心律调整器的帮助下，他现在
可以过着规律的生活。
But the pacemaker remains a constant, beating reminder, his heart needs help.
不过这个心律调整器也时时提醒他，他的心脏需要帮助。
