The Suns also received the Hornets' second-round draft pick they had obtained from the Dallas Mavericks as part of the deal Dec. 3 to get guard Dan Dickau for veteran Darrell Armstrong. Jackson had refused to report to the Hornets since he was obtained Dec. 27 in a trade from the Houston Rockets. He was suspended indefinitely and fined $27,500 per game. Last week, Jackson told his hometown newspaper, The Toledo Blade, that he didn't want to start over on a rebuilding team like the Hornets. In all, Jackson missed 11 games and was fined $302,500. His contract is worth $2.4 million this season. "We have concluded our little 25-day tenure with Jim Jackson," Hornets general manager Allan Bristow said at the start of Friday's news conference to announce the trade. "This was a trade just waiting to happen. "We got three players that we feel like can come in here and deserve a shot to play. We feel they're going to be instrumental in the remaining 40-something games that we have left. We not only looked at this trade for the rest of this season, but also the future." Jacobsen, 23, is in the final year of his contract that pays $1,082,160 this season. Both Lampe, 19, and Vroman, 23, have a year remaining on their contracts after this season. Vroman, a 6-10 rookie, had averaged 1.6 points and 1.3 rebounds in 10 games. Phoenix president and general manager Bryan Colangelo was willing to make the trade because he thinks Jackson can provide needed depth for the Suns, who are one of the top teams in the league with a 31-9 record. "Jim should significantly increase our bench productivity," Colangelo told The Associated Press. "He is a savvy vet whose game fits our system well." Jackson's refusal to report to the Hornets didn't go over well with owner George Shinn, who eventually gave Bristow the go- ahead to seek a deal. "If he doesn't like us, forget him," Shinn said before the deal was announced. "If he had reported, he probably would have been a poison in the locker room. He would have been unhappy, and he's going to make everybody else unhappy. The best thing to do was make the deal and help him find a team that he wants to play for." Bristow also said the Hornets are not interested in trading Baron Davis, who has been linked to several trade rumors for the past month. "We're not entertaining anything," Bristow said. "He's the guy that we need healthy and playing." --
