I think what makes the PhD process extrememly hard
is the mental stress rather than physical stress.
If you quit from a job, you can still get another job.
If you quit from a job, your time in your previous job is not "wasted"
because you got paid.
If you are fired from a job, you can still get another job.
If you are still on the job, that means you are doing ok.
While you are on the job, you get reasonable amount of salary.
Your benifits and rights as a labour/worker are protected by law and
work union.
But PhD is slavery.
You may have a better life if your MASTER is nice and
your work is less labour intensive and
your progress goes smoothly without meeting major obsticles.
BUT it is still a master/slave relationship.
Your are just a luckier slave.
