The Red Sox and Manny Ramirez released a joint statement today saying the
slugger won't report to training camp until March 1.
It's almost like Ramirez isn't happy to be in Boston. The Red Sox approved
the delay, and manager Terry Francona said he was "OK with this," though it's
not like he had much choice. Feb. 28 is the mandatory reporting date for all
players, and Ramirez's arrival on March 1 will mean he's in camp for one day
before he joins the Dominican team for the WBC. Francona spoke with Ramirez
Monday and said, "Manny was very honest, very forthright, very amicable and
he assures us he will be here on March 1 and ready to go."
