Francona wandered over toward shortstop, where Beckett was standing, and the two had a conversation that went something like this: Francona: How ya' doin', Josh? Beckett: Pretty good, skip. Francona: Hey, let me ask you a question. Beckett: Fire away. Francona: Do you want to stay here? Beckett: Whaddaya mean? Francona: I mean do you want to re-sign with the Red Sox. Beckett: Sure. Francona: How much are you looking for? Beckett: I don't know, maybe $10 million a year? Armed with that knowledge, Francona strolled into the clubhouse following batting practice and struck up a conversation with general manager Theo Epstein. Francona essentially asked Epstein the same questions - namely, did the Red Sox want to re-sign Beckett? - and then asked the all-important question. Francona: What do you think he's worth?
