SAN FRANCISCO (TICKER) —The San Francisco Giants on Tuesday signed veteran
righthander Ramon Ortiz to a minor league contract and invited him to spring
training.
Ortiz, 35, spent last season in Japan with the Orix Buffaloes, posting a 4-7
record with a 5.82 ERA in 17 starts.
The Dominican had his best season in 2002 with the Anaheim Angels, going 15-9
with a 3.77 ERA and picking up a win in Game Three of the World Series against
San Francisco.
Ortiz owns a career major league record of 84-80 with a 4.90 ERA in 258 games
- 210 starts - with the Angels, Cincinnati Reds, Washington Nationals,
Minnesota Twins and Colorado Rockies.
