标题[外电] Streak toughest Jordan's faced
时间Mon Dec 14 01:20:20 2009
PHILADELPHIA — The losing eats at 76ers coach Eddie Jordan to the point
where he called this skid that his team was on the toughest stretch of his
coaching career.
And that included a 25-57 first season with Washington in 2003-04.
"Even from the owner down, we knew it was a year of transition, a year of
development, a year to sort of get away from the old regime," Jordan said
about that season with the Wizards. "It was a growth year. The expectations
were very low. That wasn't as hard as it is now."
So Jordan said he has turned inward as the Sixers have lost 12 straight games
including Friday's defeat to the Houston Rockets. He has shut out his family
and the outside world in order to focus on turning the Sixers around.
"It wears on you," he said. "It tears at you. You're just thinking about
everything you have to do in order to get better."
Jordan said Allen Iverson put it into perspective for him after the Sixers'
90-86 loss to the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday. After that game, Iverson said
the win that ends the losing streak will be the most difficult one to get.
"It's sort of like closing out an opponent in the playoffs, and we're far
from that," Jordan said. "That's how hard you have to play to win a game --
as hard as you've ever played in your life."
Iverson's minutes
Jordan said he was going to closely monitor Iverson's minutes for now, at
least until he gets into better game shape.
He said Iverson won't play more than 32-35 minutes per game for the
foreseeable future. Iverson played 38 and 33 minutes in his first two games
with the Sixers, averaging 11.0 points per game and shooting 33.3 percent.
"Right now, Allen is not Allen," Jordan said. "He's hurting a little bit . .
. He's got a sore shin, and he's trying to work himself back into shape."
Jordan was then asked if Iverson worked out on his own during the three weeks
or so between leaving the Memphis Grizzlies and getting signed by the Sixers.
"You'll have to ask him," he said with a smile. "No comment."
Holiday returns
Jrue Holiday played for the first time since straining his rotator cuff on
Dec. 2 at Oklahoma City.
Jordan said he was going to try to get Holiday in the game as often as
possible. Holiday, the 19-year-old rookie, had started five straight games in
place of Lou Williams, who is out until mid January with a fractured jaw,
before he got hurt.
Holiday will come off the bench now that the Sixers signed Iverson.
Tip-ins
Villanova product Kyle Lowry was averaging 7.9 points, 4.6 assists and 3.5
rebounds in 23.9 minutes per game off the bench for the Rockets . . . The
Sixers came into the game 0-7 against Western Conference teams after going
16-14 against them last season.
