Iverson will be out indefinitely, starting with their three-game Western Conference swing that begins Tuesday at Golden State. "At this time, we feel that it is in the best interest of the Sixers, Allen and his family that he be allowed to deal with a very serious issue that is far greater than the game of basketball," said team president Ed Stefanski in a release distributed by the Sixers on Monday afternoon. A story on Yahoo! Sports claimed the 21-34 Sixers are thinking about severing ties with the 34-year-old Iverson for good. That's conceivable because if Iverson is out for any extended time, it wouldn't make sense to bring him back with so few games left in the season and the Sixers likely headed for the draft lottery. The 5-foot-11 Iverson missed five games prior to the all-star break to be with his 4-year-old daughter in Atlanta. Iverson is averaging 13.8 points and 4.1 assists in 25 games -- 24 of them starts -- with the Sixers this season. An NBA source disputed reports that the Sixers sent Iverson home. Iverson, who signed with the Sixers for the pro-rated veterans' minimum on Dec. 2, is 69 points from joining Hal Greer, who is the only player in franchise history to score 20,000 points. Willie Green is expected to start at guard in Iverson's place opposite rookie Jrue Holiday.
