Sixers Excercise Options on Holiday and Speights

The Sixers exercised team options on youngsters Jrue Holiday and Marreese
Speights Thursday.
Holiday’s contract was exercised for a third year and Speights’ for a
fourth. Both are under contract with the franchise through the 2011-’12
season.
Holiday was the Sixers’ first round pick in 2009 and is expected to assume
the starting point guard role this season. Last year, his rookie season,
Holiday started 51 games, averaging eight points and nearly four assists.
Speights was the club’s first round selection in 2008, averaged 16 minutes
per game through his first two seasons.
Conversely, the Sixers waived forward/center Trent Plaisted and backup point
guard Chris Quinn. Plaisted averaged 11.5 minutes this preseason and Quinn
averaged seven in three appearances.
The Sixers’ roster stands at 14 heading into their season opener Oct. 27
against the Heat at home.
