Tamara Lynette Green, 30, and her cousin, Gary Benjamin Green, 27, who was driving, died after a number of Green family members attended the game, the player's father, Willie Green Sr., said today. “I feel pretty hurt,” Green Sr. said this morning. “But I’m going to take solace in the same things we tell other folks going through other things like this: If God permits something like that to happen, say ‘Amen’ and move on. That’s what I will use to cope.” Green Sr. said the pair left their seats shortly after the game, in which the Hornets lost to the Pistons 111-108 in overtime. Ben Green, who also had played at Detroit Mercy, and Tamara Green then stopped at a restaurant near the Palace, according to police. But no one apparently witnessed the 12:40 a.m. accident on southbound I-75, just south of the Adams Road exit, Troy Police Lt. Robert Redmond said. "They went off the roadway at a high rate of speed, went airborne and hit the tree with the roof of the car," Redmond said this morning. "It wasn’t the road conditions; the road was fine. It was the speed. Where there’s the least amount of protection is the roof of the car."
