GT: When the season is over, Rick will have more time to think about Mary Kay's health. He hasn't said anything to me about his future, and I haven't asked him or pushed him on that. Mary Kay will be his priority, and I understand that. We'll talk about it at the appropriate time. It's on him rather than me, but I told him I will give him all the support he needs. We're hopeful that Mary Kay continues to make progress. We're planning as if he will be back next year. PP: If Adelman decides to step down, do you have a contingency plan in place? GT: Not yet. PP: Terry Porter filled in for Adelman for 11 games when Adelman was away from the team. Is Porter your choice to take over if Adelman leaves? GT: Not sure about that. If Rick were to leave, I would want to think about all options we have available to us. Right now, I don't have a strong feeling that I want to get rid of the team. I still enjoy it. GT: It's not the way we would start out, but if it means getting a quicker and fairer deal done, I would. PP: Did you ever get the sense that Roy would return to the lineup? GT: He sure sounded like a guy who thought he could do it. You trust his word. When I talked to him in December, he was under the assumption he would be back in a couple of weeks (after Nov. 19 surgery on his right knee), and he was telling other people the same things. I talked to him a month ago and I could tell he had given up, that he wasn't going to try a comeback. He seemed very mature. I thought he would bring a lot of leadership to our team, but it was tough for him to do that when he wasn't playing.
