我的合作译者之一今天写信给我，提到今年ATA(美国译者协会)年会上的热门议题。 原文如下： [为协助非英语系译者，我加注(不负责)译文] Hi Harry, I just came back from the ATA conference and the big buzz is machine translation coupled with “post-editing”. There are lots of companies that ask their linguists to use a machine translation tool or they send out a machine translated file and just ask for an edit. Agencies feel they can get a translation of somewhat decent quality for a lot less than what normal translation and edit would cost them. Many of the newer TEnTs (Translation Environment Tools, rather than Translation memory tools!) have a plug-in function for MT apps. The uproar, the translation community was like the Luddites! [还记得Trados新上市的时候闹得多大! 我们翻译界像卢德分子一样! (Luddites: 1.卢德分子(19世纪初英国手工业工人中参加捣毁机器的人)，2.(l-)强烈反 对机械化或自动化的人)] The open source community as well as Facebook, Twitter, various web sites and not the least the Linux developers use “crowdsourcing” to have their users translate (for free) and then other users vote on the best translation. These are then added to the huge and growing database of translations that supposedly will increase not just in size but in quality as well. [公开源代码界、脸书、推特、许多其他网页、甚至Linux开发商现在都使用所谓的"集体 创作"模式，让使用者无偿翻译，然後其他使用者投票选出最佳翻译。这些选出来的翻译 就会被加进那些日渐庞大的资料库 - 据说如此作法不仅可增加译文量，品质也会变得更 好。] Just look at Microsoft – they do not even have any humans translating their software anymore, all these UI terms are so standardized that they can easily plug it into an MT app and then do some “lite editing”. As to all their knowledgebase articles – no human has touched the translations of those – they are totally done by MT we were told at the ATA! The only industry so far that can ward off these attacks is medical, technical, legal…. Everyones language for marketing, social media, web sites and such will become so standardized that MT will be all that is needed … [这趋势现在正在慢慢侵入我们这产业!我们业界现在唯一能不受侵害的就是医学、技术、 法学等领域。行销、社交媒体、网页等未来会制式化到用机器翻译就够了...] Beware of the beginning of the war between Craft and Crap! XD ※ 编辑: tengharold 来自: 70.166.3.190 (11/03 04:41) 问题是虽然现在机器尚未能够完全取代人类(机器翻完後人类还会校稿) 但人类每校一句话，机器就能将其收入资料库作为未来比对的根据 而人类每跳过一句话不做更改，机器就知道形成那句话的规则是有效的 而且现在MT的三大工具 (TM，grammar rules，context search)虽然还比不上人类 但随着运算速度加快，database收纳的句数增加 (别忘记Moore's Law跟云端) 机器取代译者的日子正逐渐接近，而且是译者在自掘坟墓，让MT持续进步 XD 大陆品质有点良莠不齐，而且如果我今天要找一位巴西葡语的译者应该不会去大陆吧 XD 中进英我宁愿在美澳英找。 英进简中本来就该找大陆译者，繁体当然找台湾 所以只有那些英进繁中但品质要求(或是价位)不是很高的案子才会流往大陆 做为一位繁中译者，就得尽量避开这块 (品质或价位普普) 红海... ※ 编辑: tengharold 来自: 72.207.38.147 (11/03 14:37)
