我正在翻译一篇文章，
卡在三个字，'somewhat by default'。
整句是这样的：
Somewhat by default, the 1968 Brown and Amadon volumes served as the best
single source for diurnal raptor taxonomy until the publication of the
revised edition of the falconiforms volume of Peters’ Checklist of Birds of
the World.
Brown及Amadon在1968年的那两册大作，有好一段时间都是唯一的日猛禽分类资料来源，
要到Peters世界鸟类名录隼形目(Falconiforms)那一册修订出版後，才逐渐改观。
句首那三个字，摸不着头绪。
