标题[情报] 纽约大学游戏设计所给台湾申请者的建议

这篇是利用寒假时间与我们纽约大学游戏设计研究所*上的主任以及教授们访谈的结果及
对话记录。希望能够对台湾想要申请游戏设计相关的申请者有所帮助。

1) What is the most weakness / drawbacks you see for Taiwanese applicants?
你觉得对於台湾的申请者而言,最常见的缺点是什麽?
Language proficiency is the most important hurdle to get over. The Game
Center MFA is very focused on design process, which involves a lot of
communication - articulating your vision, discussing ideas with collaborators, organizing
work flow within a group, presenting your work, etc. Making sure you have the language skills
needed to communicate effectively is top priority.
英文的表达通常是最需要克服的障碍。纽约大学游戏设计艺术硕士是非常专注在设
计的过程,包含了许多沟通例如:需要清楚表达你的远见、与夥伴讨论想法、在团队中规
划、工作流程、表达你的作品等等。最重要的是确保你有足够的语言能力去做有效的沟通
。
2) What is the most critical elements to be a successful applicants?
什麽是申请成功最关键的要素?
A portfolio of strong work and a personal statement that shows that you have
a clear vision for how you want to contribute to the world of games.
一个好的
"作品集"以及"个人陈述"能表达你很清楚知道自己要如何把游戏贡献给这个世
界。
3) Is a Game-Related experience important or a must to be consider for the
admission?
请问具备游戏相关经验对於申请是重要的或是必须的吗?
No. It can be very useful, but it isn't a requirement. We want to have a
variety of students with different backgrounds, interests, and levels of game-making
experience.
What is required is that you have a passion for games, talent, and a desire
to create original, high-quality work.
不是的。有相关经验固然很有帮助,但不是必要的。我们想要有来自不同背景的学生,
不同的兴趣,以及不同程度的游戏制作经验。 真正必要的是你对游戏的热情、天份、和
那股想要创造出原创、高品质作品的欲望。
4) What type of background of applicants does NYU Game Center's looking for?
请问纽约大学游戏设计所在找怎样背景的申请者呢?
Games are highly inter-disciplinary. We are looking for talented students
with different skills and areas of focus: programming, visual design, storytelling, system
design, animation, music composition and audio design, etc. Our students come
from many different backgrounds from computer science and boardgame design to
economics and political activism!
游戏是相当跨领域的学科。我们在寻找有着各种不同技能、来自不同领域且有天赋
的学生。像是程式、视觉设计、故事剧本、系统设计、动画、音乐与音效设计等等不同的
领域。我们的学生来自许多不同的背景,从资工、桌游设计、到经济学和政治行动主义都
有。
5) Any Advices for Taiwanese applicants?
请问您有任何建议给台湾的申请者吗?
Make games! Make small, finished, playable games by yourself or collaborating
with other people. Don't wait, figure out how you can create games using the
skills and tools you have currently have access to.
The best way to learn is by doing!
做游戏!自己动手或是合作去做小型、完整、可玩的游戏。不要再等了,想办法自
己如何用现有的技能和工具去做游戏。最好的学习方式就是开始动手去做!
