solarjeff, I know the goodwill of yours makes you interpret it this way.
But please take a closer look at "status" and the supposedly summerizing
phrase "being a model monk" after a dash.
"Status" doesn't carry the meaning you refer to.
"Level" or "state of mind" will do.
Not all monks truly follow Buddha's teaching of maintaining a mindset of
non-achieving. So obviously their seemingly "meditating well" could only
fool the less enlighted.
