标题[问题] 看不太懂这一句话

请问以下问题：
第一，就是第一句：英国国会「任命」（或是指派？）维多利亚女王做为印度女皇（或女王）？
不管是任命或指派，在这里合理吗？国会可以任命或指派女王去担任某某职务吗？
不知道这跟翻译有没有关系，不过还是想问一下。
第二，就是第二句之後到底是在说什麽呢？
我自己的想法是：
这场参加这场典礼的人，包括了印度的亲王（还是就是王子的意思？）、领袖、贵族
等需要靠现在的成功来维系过去的光荣（这里的antiquity要怎麽翻呢？）的人，
他们也帮助促成了这个伟大帝国（是指大英帝国还是印度呢？）的光荣与稳定......

请问这句话後半部该怎麽翻译呢？
我自己是翻成：
从此之後，「在大英帝国里，太阳从不落下，」也成为这第一个世界最高强权的忠心仆人最自豪的称颂句子。
似乎是改写句子，跟原意好像不同喔？
请各位前辈指点一下喔！
