标题[问题] 请教一句翻译

其实这一整句很长
出现於今年指考阅读测验里
在做试题分析时 发现这句不是很好翻译出来
...he (Andrew Carnegie) once wrote, "To continue much longer overwhelmed
by business cares and with most of my thoughts wholly upon the way to
make more money in the shortest time, must degrade me beyond hope of permanent
recovery."
其实文章里突然插入这样一句他说过的话
感觉有点怪怪的
我想大概的意思是
"长久为事业烦恼..并且不断让自己的心思放在如何於最短时间内赚最多的钱...
为了继续如此...我必须降低(?抓不到准确的字)自己超越永久复原的希望...."
後面完全不知道在翻什麽 = =
有没有高手可以提供漂亮的翻译 切磋一下
