继续发问 这篇文章後来有提到一个学者叫索洛金(Pitirim Sorokin) 他认为西方历史中的人类精神状态(mentality心态?)可以大致上分成两种 ideational mentality 和 sensate mentality 不清楚这两个字该怎麽翻才好 mentality这个字指的是精神状态 心理状态 ideational mentality 指的是较为偏重观念的心态 sensate mentality指的则是相反 偏重感觉的心态 (我可以这麽翻吗? 把ideational mentality翻成 偏重观念的心态??) 索洛金认为人类的精神历史就是在这两端摆荡 原文这段话这麽写: They showed that the Zeitgeist of the Western world has flunctuated between sensate and ideational mentalities. Beginning with an ideational environment of ideas in 600 B.C. it ocillitated to a sensate mentality when the Roman Empire was at its peak, from there to a new ideational symbolic environment in the late Middle Ages, then to a new sensate mentality in our time. 我对这段文字有点看不懂... 自己揣测是 西元前600年 西方世界偏重观念 到了罗马帝国鼎盛时期 又偏为感官 到了中世纪末又开始转为偏观念 到现代又是偏感官 所以 600B.C ~ 罗马帝国鼎盛 = 观念 罗马帝国鼎盛~中世纪晚期 = 感官(??) 中世纪晚期~ 现代 = 观念 现在 ~ ??? 感官(?) 不知我理解的是否正确? 另外想问一些语句的问题 文中有一段谈到两个重要的民调学者 原文是这样写的: Many pollsters picked up bits and pieces of this turmoil, but only two rose to the occasion and provided comprehensive accounts. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ 这边的rose to the occasion是甚麽意思?? 还有一段是提到某些历史上的大事件会影响人们的价值观 Historians have showed how big events such as The Great Depression or the two World Wars of the twentith century affected the opinions of most everyone living through them. With the First World War in mind, ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Mannheim(1928) identified the transition period between youth and adulthood as a particularly impressionable age. At that age men and women are usually open to embracing extreme opinions....(下略) 这边的with the first world war in mind是指??? 对一次大战还有印象? 还是?? 这里的主词应该是Mannheim 所以对一次大战有印象的 是Mannheim这个人? 这句要怎麽翻译比较好? (後面的句子都能看懂且能翻译) 最後问一下大家 priorities 这个字 该怎麽译比较好 譬如 在这个句子里 values are generalized, consistent priorites for how we want to live. 这里的priority该翻成首要任务, 优先之事, 优先顺序, 还是?? 又the repeated swings between extremes do not mean that dialectic priorities usually revert to any position we call 'normal.' 翻成辩证的首要之务好像有点怪? 不然就是像 an individual's personal priorities may mature and attain balance with age personal priorities 可以译成个人的优先顺序吗? 每次碰到priority这个字 总是犹豫要怎麽翻比较 英文可以理解 但中文要找个相对应的词 有点困难 抱歉问题很多又很杂 >< 希望能听听大家的意见 多谢! --
